It is in the Eastern part of Tennessee this story begins, in the small town of Johnson City, located one hundred miles northeast of Knoxville—a lovely city nestled in among lush green mountains.

The year is 1954, population 23,000. Johnson City is a town that has flourished, from its beginning. It is rich in history, but this is not a story of history. This story centers on the strife and hardships of one dirt-poor Southern family and one little girl’s will to survive, survive not only as a child but long after. Her name is Callie James, and Callie tells the story.

On Fear Edge eBook Vickie Lee White

I just finished reading "On Fear's Edge" by Vickie Lee White and found it to be an amazing story. It is an inspirational testament to the human spirt of one little girl/young woman who somehow found the strength to go on despite a life filled with poverty, fear, abuse. I found that the book held my interest from start to finish as Callie journeyed through endless hardships and heartaches. The book cover reads "based on a true story" and I must say that if anyone endured even half of Callie's struggles they are a true survivor. The book is of the same genre as several written by Jeannette Walls, so I would recommend this book to any readers that are fans of her books. I hope this book writes another book soon!

On Fear Edge eBook Vickie Lee White Reviews

I sat up half the night reading this book, I couldn't put it down!!! It made my heart hurt and it made me laugh out loud!! It made my heart hurt because I believe there are children who lived with hunger and fear in these mountains of Northeast Tennessee. It made me laugh at some of the situations Callie found herself in. She didn't really chew Jimmy's gum for him, did she? I highly recommend this book!!
Thanks Vickie for taking me back to think upon my own life and to reinforce the truth that we are all human. The only thing that would have made it better is if I would of had Nikki to share the reading with.
This is a very enlightening , very exciting, fast paced, very real about what real people grow up on in the south.
A beautifully written story of love, faith, and forgiveness.
I just finished this book last night. It was such a great read and the writer expressed everything so vividly that you felt you were living her life with her. I would definitely recommend buying this book, you will not want to put it down!!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! While reading, I felt as if I had truly known this character and felt the fear, love and anguish that Callie felt. I read it in 2 ½ days, I couldn’t put it down. I had to finish it and find out what happened next! Hope you write another!
This is a wonderful and fascinating book from beginning to end!. It is amazing how Callie was able to endure hardship, persevere and overcome so many challenges. Ms. White has a remarkable way of writing with integrity, beauty and expression. The difficulties of growing up underprivileged are so well documented in this amazing story. I thank the author for writing it and for sharing this lovely work. You will love Callie for being so in touch with her feelings despite all the hardships that she faced, being so thoughtful and caring toward others, and growing up to be such a beautiful person! This book is highly recommended to enrich your life and be a genuine inspiration in a myriad of ways! RSL
